SISDEV AND BRITISH COUNCIL TAKES ITS MESSAGE OF QUALITY LEADERSHIP AND NON-VIOLENT ELECTIONS TO USOKUN, DEGEMA LGA OF RIVERS STATE

As part of the implementation of its project on Quality and Inclusive leadership, Electoral Violence Prevention and Non- Violent Approach to Grievances Management, Support Initiative for Sustainable Development, (SISDEV) in partnership with the British Council, took its message to Usokun-Degema Community in Degema Local Government area of Rivers State.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, the 14th of July 2022, at the Community Town hall in Usokun, with 96 people in attendance, consisting of traditional rulers, men, women and youths.

The Executive Director of SISDEV, Mr. Philip Kalio who facilitated one of the sessions, spoke on Quality Leadership, highlighting the qualities of a true leader, the characteristics of leaders, effective leadership styles and becoming a transformational leader.

Also speaking at the meeting, a facilitator, Evelyn O. Williams handled a session on Non Violent Conflict Resolution and the effects of violence, pointing out the need for Peaceful electioneering processes and electing credible leaders. 

After each session of the meeting, members of the community present were given opportunities to ask questions on the lectures presented. They also tabled issues bothering the community, seeking for solutions to existing conflicts in the community and how to ensure collaborations between the units of the community.

In his response to the questions and issues raised, Philip Kalio pointed out to the participants that sustainable development can only be achieved in a peaceful community. He urged all members of the community, including the traditional rulers, to work together for the growth of their community.

Some participants, who spoke with the SISDEV Media team after the meeting, expressed their gratitude to the organization for bringing such innovative and transformative message to the rural areas. They ensured that the message received has stirred up a longing in the hearts of everyone to rebuild their community.
